Obama, Respect & Fear

First of all, a hearty congratulations to Barack Obama for winning the US Elections. I have been following his progress and to be honest I couldn’t have seen it going any other way. Lets face it, McCain was a bit of a “James Blunt”.

I think having someone in the US Government that isn’t a complete nut-job, or lets say “mentally lacking” will do wonders to the superpower.

However, I still have this niggling feeling that Obama is still only 1 man, with a whole series of people behind the scenes, and, no matter how respectable he is, not every decision will be up to him. His influence will do good, sure, but how much good I do not know.

I guess time will tell, but one things for is for certain, at least this president could pass third grade.

Bigger Cupholders (For a Price)!

I recently went to the town cinema considering its been awhile, expecting the same old sticky floors & grumpy staff; instead finding that the whole experience is now completely different.

Lets ignore the prices of food / drink (..for now) and move straight on to this new feature; “Premier” seats.

Just in-case you weren’t aware (Or download your movies instead of actually paying for them) a host of cinemas are now stripping out 1/2 the auditiorium and replacing it with these new “Premier” seats.

I say “Premier” seats with the quotations because, as I found out when I snuck a peak at one during the showing of Mamma Mia, they are pretty much the same as regular seats, except they have:

A slightly bigger cup holder (Presumably so you can buy the £5.50 super-extra-massive-heartattack coke)
A bit more padding

So just in-case paying a mark-up of about 300% for what is basically suger coated tooth-decay, you now have to buy a “Premier” seat if you want to be in the best viewing spot in the cinema & a cup holder for a drink which in all likelyhood will make you spend half the film in the toilet.

Still, at least the floors were still sticky…

“Boom, Boom” in the Back of the Bus

So I fumble in my pockets, manage to find my bus pass in amongst all the flint that somehow multiplies in there, finally get to relax near the back of the double decker, when…

“Baddum, boom, baddum baddum, boom, clang, bang, wallop…..”

…erupts from the back seat. Thats right, someone in the mobile phone trade thought it would be a good idea to put the music and the phone speakers together. A grand plan if chivlerly and good manners are the cornerstones of your country, but we’re in Britain remember, so instead every bus is now a drum & bass gig on wheels.

I don’t blame the little punks who use the phones, I mean give a kid a toy that makes a sodding load of noise and he’s going to play with it; and, lets face it, buses aint exactly wet-yourself exciting at the best of times.

But if I hear incoherent banging on drums one more time on a double-decker I swear I’ll be inserting phones into 14 year old’s colonic pathways.
